NHS Cervical Screening Animation

High-impact animation campaign raising awareness of cervical screening and encouraging uptake across the Black Country. Successfully expanded through multi-language translations and commissioned extensions, increasing accessibility and reach.

My role

Led the development of the animation’s creative and communications approach, ensuring messaging was informative, sensitive, and easy to understand. This included script development, storyboarding, overseeing visual style and narrative consistency in collaboration with stakeholders, and producing supporting social media content to extend reach and engagement across digital channels.

Overview

Following the success of previous breast and bowel screening animations, this project was commissioned to raise awareness of cervical screening and increase uptake across the Black Country.

Approach

The animation focused on simplifying complex information and addressing common concerns around screening. A consistent visual style and narrative approach were used to align with existing campaign assets, reinforcing trust and recognition.

Content was developed collaboratively with the client at key stages, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and alignment with public health objectives while minimising revisions.

Impact

The animation was successfully delivered and translated into multiple languages, increasing accessibility for diverse communities. Positive feedback led to further commissions, including additional language versions and British Sign Language (BSL), extending the reach and inclusivity of the campaign.

Client testimonial

“We are really pleased that the animation has been widely shared across the Black Country and is supporting the health inequalities workstreams. We believe it will have a positive impact on the amount of people coming forward for breast screening. As a result, we have commissioned the production of a bowel screening animation which is in progress, with a cervical screening video to follow”
